Learning new things everyday can be a very tough thing to do. LifeHack has written a fantastic post different ways you can learn something new every day. The ideas there focus a lot on ‘automating’ your learning with podcasts, RSS feeds, etc. I agree that these are all very good ways to learn core concepts.
However, if you stop there in your ‘daily learning’ I really don’t think you will end up being that fulfilled. I know I’m not.
Here’s Why:
When I look at all the various activities I do, the most challenging ones are the ones I love to do the most. Many of them are becoming hobbies and passions in their own right.
For example, Yesterday I worked on the following life projects:
- Work
- My relationship with my new fiancee
- Squidoo
- Sell My Lens
- Instant Online Auction
- Marketing Brainstorming
- Ebay
- Antique Booth Business
- Learned all about Adwords w/ Google Analytics
- Houston Antique Source
- etc, etc, etc.
Reading about things is all well and good, but getting out there and doing something, anything, you haven’t done before is the key to really developing as a person.
Turning passions into cash is what is allowing my fiancee to go after her true love, art and actually make more money than she was full-time by working part-time.
Doing something that makes you uncomfortable every day helps you to grow way faster than reading the same tips off of your computer screen every day.
